New Aerospace-Grade Planar Transformers from Vishay Offer Lower Cost

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA, USA and SHANGHAI, CHINA - 13 May 2024 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has announced a new series of low-profile, aerospace-grade planar transformers for power conversion - the SGTPL-2516 series. Transformer --- SGTPL-2516 series. The customisable Vishay Custom Magnetics SGTPL-2516 series transformers offer significant advantages over traditional planar transformers in terms of lower cost, smaller size, higher power density and compliance with MIL-STD-981 Class S requirements.


Featuring through-hole terminals and a variety of package sizes, the transformers are widely used in switch-mode power supplies as well as DC/DC and AC/DC converters. Designed for harsh environments, these transformers feature a rugged package design with moulded windings and an operating temperature of up to 130 C and are MIL-STD-981 certified.The SGTPL-2516 series of transformers operate from 80 kHz to 300 kHz, have a high dielectric withstand voltage of 1,500 VAC, a power rating of 150 W, and a leakage inductance of 0.5 H. The SGTPL-2516 series of transformers are designed to withstand the rigours of the harsh environment.


With a unique winding structure and manufacturing process, these transformers achieve a higher copper fill factor than traditional planar transformers, resulting in improved package size, efficiency, and power density.The winding technology of the SGTPL-2516 series facilitates the adjustment of operating voltage, inductance, power, package size, and height to specific design requirements without the need for upfront tooling costs. In addition to MIL-STD-981 standard Class S, Group A and B screening, these devices offer Class P screening for design verification testing and other custom screening options.


These new transformers are now available for sampling and volume production with an 8-week lead time for P-class screening equipment and a 21-week lead time for S-class screening equipment.
